What is a Cone Beam CT Scan?
A dental cone beam (CB) CT is cone-beam Computerised Tomography scan produces 3D cross-sectional images of the jaws and teeth. It is a faster and safer version of the regular CT scan. The dentist is able to examine images provided by the CT scanner from any direction. The machine moves around your head in a circular motion, like the panoramic dental radiography unit, which is commonly used in dental surgeries and hospitals, which you may have already experienced.
The benefits of a CBCT
The CBCT scan will give us detailed information which cannot be obtained from normal X-rays. CBCT is commonly used for dental implants, impacted wisdom teeth extractions, diagnosing of Dentoalveolar pathology etc.
How long does a CT scan take?
The whole procedure usually takes between 10 to 15 minutes and we can see the image immediately on the computer screen.
How safe CT scans are?
The whole procedure is pain-free. In the CBCT scan, X-ray dose to the patient is considerably less than the medical CT scans. Our skilled staff will assist you during every step. As with any X-ray examination, please tell the radiographer if you might be pregnant.
